Epping Forest
Step straight out of our door into Epping Forest — one of London's great ancient woodlands
The Woodbine sits at the entrance to Epping Forest, one of the largest ancient woodlands in the south-east of England. Whether you're after a gentle stroll before Sunday lunch or a longer ramble through the trees, you'll find walks to suit all ages and abilities starting right from our car park.
The forest covers over 2,400 hectares of ancient woodland, grassland and heath, and is managed by the City of London Corporation. It's home to ancient pollarded hornbeams, fallow deer, rare fungi and a wealth of birdlife. Dogs are welcome throughout the forest on leads.
The Woodbine sits right on the edge of Epping Forest — all routes start from the pub car park.
Wear sturdy footwear — paths can be muddy after rain at any time of year.
Dogs are welcome in the forest and in our bar area. Please keep them on leads near the road.
The forest has no formal waymarking on most paths — an OS map or the Epping Forest app is useful for longer walks.
Book a table before you head out so your Sunday roast or lunch is waiting when you return.
Come back to The Woodbine for a well-earned Sunday roast or a pub lunch. Book ahead to avoid disappointment, especially on Sundays.
Walk distances and times are approximate. Paths may be muddy after rain. The Woodbine accepts no responsibility for conditions encountered in the forest. Always check the weather and carry appropriate clothing.
